Virtual Air Guitar
Air guitarists’ rock dreams come trueA brand new system has just been developed in Finland to enable even the most non-musical of people to be able to produce screaming guitar solos and riffs without any knowledge of guitar playing.
To use this 'virtual guitar' system you simply have to don a pair of brightly colored gloves and stand in front of a webcam. The image of your hands is processed and based on the movement of your hand the sound is produced....
Incredible idea.. there is also a video of the system in action which is well worth a look at.

How To Connect your Guitar to your Computer

BackgroundThere are several ways to connect an electric guitar to a computer for recording. The method you choose will depend on the purpose of your recording and the quality of recording you hope to achieve.At the most basic level, it is possible to connect the guitar directly to the computer soundcard as in Method 1.However, although this basic setup is likely to be fine for many users, it may not give the high quality performance needed for a more professional sound. In general, electric guitars need a high impedance input, but although most computer soundcard's mic inputs have a high impedance, it is not as high as a normal guitar input. This lower impedance can result in quality problems. Plugging your guitar into the line-in rather than the mic-in will solve impedance problems, but then you will need a preamp.

Guitar beginner Video lessons
Another free tuition site, It seems to be basic to intermedieate level.
There is a great video section that has short videos that open in a snazzy little guitar amp shaped panel. The videos show the technique and are accompanied by onscreen TAB charts.
You need to have quicktime installed but it is definately worth checking out just to see the videos.
Each video is approximately 30 sec in length. These videos should help to visually show you the concepts described in the tutorials. Please keep in mind that these videos are merely a supliment to the tutorials and it is there that you should focus your study.

Free Guitar lessons online
I just stumbled accross this site which contains a load of free guitar lessons that were apparently posted to a now inactive mailing list.
They are all simple text based lesson, no audio but they really go into depth with the correct posture and provide many simple but effective exercises for you to practice.

This new guitar course just released seems to be really complete with its 10 DVDs, 5 CDs and 100 page course book. We haven't had a chance to have a look at it in person but from the reviews it seems to be just what is needed to progress from low level intermediate guitarist to an advanced level, its lesson structures seem to be well thought out and the suggested practice regimen should work for most guitar students.

Guitar TAB lessons under threat?
Could this become a problem for the guitar student?
Songwriter's publishers are cracking down on the free distribution of guitar tab charts.
One one hand this is good for the working musicians who needs to earn a living as best they can, but on the other hand it seems a bit odd that guitar tabs to well known songs, which have been worked out by amateur guitarists for non-profit purposes are being penalized under the copyright rules...
- Does this mean that it is illegal therefore to sing or even hum a copyrighted song if you are in public?
